Cashlogy Marks 10 Years in Malta with Industry Forum

Cashlogy is marking 10 years in Malta with a conference-style industry forum featuring guest speakers and discussions on the future of cash automation.

In Malta, where cash remains king, shop counters have quietly been transformed by Cashlogy, a Spanish automated cash-handling system developed by Azkoyen, a European leader in cash automation. This spring marks 10 years since the first Cashlogy system was installed in Malta. To mark the milestone, Kintech will host a 10-year anniversary conference and networking event for retailers and industry leaders on 22 April in Naxxar. Participants will reflect on a decade of retail cash automation and discuss the future of cash management in Malta’s digital era.

From POS Startup to Cashlogy Partner

Infotech Enterprises Ltd was established by brothers Kevin and Ian Attard and began providing point-of-sale systems in 2009. The company introduced Cashlogy to Malta with the first installation at Dr Charles Attard’s Juanafil Consultants in 2016.

Dr Attard recalls: “We believed early on that precise, secure cash management could significantly improve day-to-day operations for local businesses.”

Following the initial successful deployments, Infotech became Azkoyen’s first certified Cashlogy partner in Malta in 2019. To meet growing demand, the Cashlogy division was spun off into KIN Technologies Ltd (Kintech) in 2022.

In 2024, Kintech brought in Maltese IT firm Eyetech Ltd as a strategic partner and shareholder and absorbed Infotech’s remaining POS business, consolidating its position as a leading provider of integrated POS, payment and cash automation solutions in Malta.

“For Eyetech, investing in Kintech was a natural strategic step. In my role across both organisations, I see a strong, reliable technology backed by a local team with deep expertise and a clear commitment to customer support. Cashlogy isn’t just a machine, it’s an operational upgrade that gives retailers more control, accuracy and peace of mind. We’re proud to help push this innovation forward in Malta,” said Omar Said, director at both Kintech and Eyetech.

Widespread Adoption and Impact

Over the past decade, more than 200 Cashlogy units have been deployed across Malta, ranging from small outlets to major supermarket chains. Cashlogy cash recyclers automatically validate, count and dispense money at the checkout, effectively eliminating manual cash-counting errors.

Retailers report significant reductions in shrinkage (losses arising from mistakes or theft) alongside noticeably faster transactions. End-of-day reconciliation, once a time-consuming task, can now be completed in minutes.

Cashlogy’s footprint in Malta now spans a wide cross-section of retail and hospitality environments. Installations can be found in ironmongers, pet shops, pharmacies, fashion outlets, fast-food operators, cafés, bars, restaurants and neighbourhood kiosks. This broad adoption reflects the system’s flexibility across both high-volume and specialised retail environments. By securing cash within the unit and removing manual handling from the checkout process, businesses benefit from tighter loss prevention, faster service times and improved hygiene for both staff and customers.

Celebrating 10 Years and Looking Ahead

The anniversary conference on 22 April will bring together industry stakeholders to examine cash’s evolving role in modern retail. Francesco Spagnuolo, Azkoyen’s country manager for Cashlogy, will deliver a keynote address highlighting the ongoing collaboration between the manufacturer and Kintech.

Dr Charles Attard, Malta’s first Cashlogy user, will attend as an honoured guest and speaker.

The context remains clear: Malta continues to be one of Europe’s most cash-reliant markets, with roughly two-thirds of in-store transactions still settled in cash. As Kintech managing director Kevin Attard notes, the objective is not to eliminate cash but to modernise how it is handled.

“It’s not about replacing cash. It’s about making cash transactions as modern and efficient as any digital payment,” he says.

The conference will feature case studies and live demonstrations showing how automated cash handling preserves the familiarity of cash while removing much of the traditional operational burden for retailers.

Innovation and the Road Ahead

Azkoyen continues to advance the Cashlogy platform with enhancements such as AI-driven banknote recognition and expanded coin capacity. Kintech’s technical teams undergo continuous training to implement these upgrades and maintain consistently high local support standards.

The 10-year milestone is positioned not as a retrospective moment but as a springboard for the next phase of innovation. Kintech’s evolution, from a specialised POS provider to a comprehensive retail technology partner, reflects the broader transformation underway in Malta’s checkout environment.

With physical currency still deeply embedded in everyday transactions, modern cash automation is set to play an increasingly important role in ensuring that cash remains secure, efficient and fit for the digital age. As Malta’s retail sector continues to evolve, Kintech’s commitment to innovation ensures that cash remains a secure, future-ready payment option.
